Village Between Forest and Sea

The Village of Belcarra is a rural community of 700 tucked away on the north side of Burrard Inlet at the mouth of Indian Arm.

Surrounded by mountains, forests and a majestic deep-water fjord, Belcarra epitomizes the relaxed West Coast lifestyle; this well-wooded residential community overlooks the magnificent North Shore mountains and the picturesque waters of Indian Arm (which includes Bedwell Bay, Belcarra Bay, Cosy Cove, Whiskey Cove, Farrer Cove & Twin Islands).

Annual Crab Activities

There are yearly events to celebrate the art of catching crab by the Belcarra pier. However, if you aren’t here for these dates, you may crab fish whenever. All you will need is a tidal fishing license along with some traps.

The best time to crab fish is around two hours after low tide when the crabs are moving out with the water. There are always others at the pier crab fishing, so if you are new, you can find help from locals.

8 Corners Organic Tea Room

This small tea shop is the perfect secluded spot to enjoy a hot cup of tea by the water.

You can stop here for lunch and grab other savoury items, although their specialty falls during midafternoon when high tea is served. Here you can enjoy decadent tiny sandwiches and treats along with their organic well-sourced tea. If you don’t have time to stay, you can also order to go and even get high tea for pick up (although we wouldn’t recommend missing out on this beautiful view while enjoying the snacks)

Sasamat Lake

Recommended by Vancouver's Best Places

This small lake punches over its size. Often rated as one of the must-sees when visiting the Vancouver area, this lake is secluded and a thing of beauty. There is a summer camp across the lake and a public beach for everyone to enjoy.

Sometimes open water swimming events are hosted here, so check the dates if you love swimming races. However, if you love relaxing on sandy lake beaches, this is a great area that will be sure to impress.

Takaya Tours – Paddle Rentals

Belcarra area is situated in the Indian arm, which is a quiet extension of the Pacific Ocean. Here you can enjoy beautiful views of mountain ranges, fantasize over modern mansions cut into the rock face and maybe see a seal or two.

You can rent single kayaks, double/canoes, and stand-up paddleboards at Takaya. While they have the standard day rates, you might also be up for an overnight adventure rate where you can explore deep into the Indian arm.

Belcarra Bluffs and Jacks Lookout Hike

The biggest draw for Belcarra is the access to nature, so you wouldn’t want to visit without going on a hike or two. This moderate hike is good for someone with intermediate fitness levels as there is a decent amount of elevation gained (300m climbing over 5km).

However, as you can see from the photo, the view of the Indian Arm and Greater Vancouver is breathtaking. While your legs may be tired when you get up to this point, if it is a clear day, the view will be spectacular and make the climb worth it.

Admiralty Point Trail

If that last hike sounds too intense, or you are travelling with younger children, this hike could be the perfect alternative. While it is still a hike, it may be considered more of a walk. This trail follows the water and ends at a beautiful beach pictured above.

While it is still 5km long, it doesn’t gain any elevation, and you could turn around at any point. If neither of these hikes seems appropriate, there are many more you can find when navigating the all trails website cited below.
