The Boom Camp Trails

Home to the Blind River Cross Country Ski Club, this beautiful park is both a breathtaking view of the town’s nature and a reflection of its history of over 600 years. Supported by archaeological evidence and oral traditions of the Mississauga First Nation support, it is believed to have been a gathering place for some of the earliest First Nation communities.

It is also one point that allows access to the Mississagi River. The 12 km long trails are made up of 3 loops; Harbour Loop, Woodland Loop and Delta Loop, each separated by distinct interpretive signage outlining the area’s history. The use of the trails evolves with the seasons; in the winter, they are prepared for cross-country skiing, and in the spring, summer and fall, they are perfect for those that want to hike and bike. Having gone through many functional changes over the years, it remains an integral part of life in the town.

Blind River Public Library

One of the oldest amenities in the town, the library was opened to the public in 1926 and has since moved and expanded multiple times to finally find a home in a historically significant building in 2000.

8 Woodward, the building, had been a Post Office, Town Hall, Customs Office, Public Health Unit, Courthouse, School Board office and even a jail at different times. Even though it has been renovated, the building reflects the Town’s history and stands as a monument for residents and visitors.

Blind River Provincial Park

The Provincial Park offers a variety of activities all year round but is most popularly known as a canoeing destination in the summer. It contains sections of two widely loved canoe routes: The Flack Lake Figure Eight & Dunlop Lake – Mace Lake Route.

Due to the self-sustaining population of brook trout found in the waters of this park, it is also a great fishing spot. There are many islands, wetlands and even a canyon within the bounds of the large river and lake shoreline. Summer is a great time to be here as many other recreational activities are available at the park, including; boating, camping, swimming, hunting and wildlife viewing. In the winter, the park is also open for snowshoeing and snowmobiling.
