Holland Marsh

The Holland Marsh is commonly referred to as Ontario’s ‘vegetable patch’ because of its incredible variety and copious amounts of fresh produce. This farming community is located on the Holland River that flows into Lake Simcoe.

Produce selections range from more traditional crops such as carrots, onions and celery, to more diverse options like Chinese broccoli, Asian radish, and water spinach. The ability to grow and harvest these crops, which cumulatively amount to over $50 million worth of produce per year, results from a combination of dedicated farmers and incredible muck soil.

The Marsh occupies approximately 2,833 hectares (ha) and is primarily organic soil. The canal and dyke system is 28 kilometres (km), which circles the marsh, acting to keep stormwater and upstream drainage from entering the marsh. When harvests are ready, farmers sell their produce at local markets.

Big Momma’s Soul Food

Big Mommas Soul Food is Bradford’s go-to spot for delicious soul food. The food is very fresh and delicious, and the customer service is exceptional. Owner Dave makes visitors feel welcome and feel like family. Portions are very large and are extremely flavourful, and prices are quite reasonable.

The food is authentic, and the restaurant mainly serves Jamaican cuisine. Items served here include appetizers, a variety of main courses, roti, and sides. Favourites here are the oxtail, jerk chicken dinners, patties, and goat roti. Oxtail and gravy here is on the spicier side, but won’t linger for too long. The meat is so tender that it falls off the bone here. For those looking for a delicious and authentic experience, come to Big Mommas Soul Food.

Holland Marsh Wineries

Holland Marsh Wineries is a beautiful winery nestled in Newmarket, just 15 minutes away from Bradford. The winery was established in 2008 and encompasses 22 acres of sandy, clay and loamy-type soil. This unique soil composition and bowl-shaped micro-climate give the estate-grown grapes an unparalleled distinction from that of any other region in Ontario. Paired with many centuries worth of knowledge and countless years of experience, the winery is pioneering the way for emerging wine regions in Ontario.

The winery’s cellar and wine shop showcase their library of wines ranging in different styles and vintages which are available for tasting. Here you will also find wine-related merchandise, cheese and charcuterie boards, as well as information packages for events at the winery. The cheese board is a favourite for visitors and includes outstanding cheeses, crackers and spicy jams.

The wine tastings are very fun, and they have both white and red wine. Each sample costs you $2.50 and if you buy a bottle the sample cost will be waived. The staff are amazing and so friendly, knowledgeable and always have a smile. This place is great for photo shooting as well, they’ve decorated the wine yard and there is a nice pond with a walking deck. The clubhouse is good for events and parties with a view of the wine yard.
