Brooks Aqueduct

The Brooks Aqueduct is a defunct historical site and museum. The aqueduct was built initially by the Irrigation division of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company between 1912 and 1914.

The aqueduct provided much-needed water to the arid farmlands of southeastern Alberta. It was a colossal engineering feat at the time, and it is still possible to visit and marvel at this enormous engineered concrete structure that stands as a testament to the brilliant agricultural pioneers who developed the structure.

Irrigation transformed this part of Alberta from a bone-dry landscape to highly productive farmland, and the scale of this structure is staggering, given the period in which it was built. Visitors can walk around eventually with the self-guiding brochure and plaques of information.

If you have some time, you can walk along the new canal east towards the “Siphon,” a tube that controls the water under the railway tracks. It is interesting to observe it when a train travels across. Please note that the site is only fully open over the summer.

Home Time Bar-B-Que

Home Time Bar-B-Que is a restaurant that offers a unique experience not found at most restaurants. The restaurant serves traditional wood-fired Texas-styled barbeque and is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The restaurant offers dine-in, or you can simply get it sliced, chopped or pulled to order and go. Meats are smoked daily and are fresh and delightful. The restaurant and smokery serve smoked meats (as you could have guessed), meat plates, sandwiches, fried chicken, tacos, platters and much more.

Texas barbecue refers to the segment of Texan cuisine that specializes in grilled and smoked meats and the many side dishes that traditionally accompany them. Beef brisket and various pork products are considered the state specialty. In some instances, Texas-style barbecue has merged with another state mainstay, Tex-Mex cuisine.

The restaurant also features a full-service bakery serving fresh bread and treats from artesian bread to cookies. Cakes and tarts, the bakery will indeed have something for any visitor—an absolute must-visit for a unique experience for everyone.
