Simpson Mine Shaft

This mine shaft is of great importance to Canadian history and metal manufacturing. It is the location of the first copper mine built in Canada in 1846. At this Simpson museum are over 7000 artifacts relating to Canada’s early mining life, domestic life and industry. Today, Canada is one of the world’s major producers of copper, making this the early birthplace of one of Canada’s most lucrative industries making this hidden gem in Ontario well worth a visit.

Historic Mine Trail

A long series of outdoor trails encompass over two hours of walkable trail to discover. The routes follow important historical sites in the history-making of Bruce Mines. For example, one trail is named after a jail site that used to house Ontario prisoners during the early mining era. This might be a small town, but it has a big history hidden in its nature, waiting for travellers to discover.

Bruce Mines United Church

This is a century-old church constructed by early Presbyterian settlers, a relic of history still frequented today and available for public visit. A special attraction that draws visitors is a century-old hand-carved copy of The Lord’s Prayer, made in 1891 as a wedding gift for a parishioner’s daughter.
