Captain James Cook Historic Site

This site hosts a statue of James Cook and his adventures in mapping the world.

James Cook was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the British Royal Navy. He was famous for his three voyages between 1768 and 1779 in the Pacific Ocean and New Zealand and Australia.

From 1763 to 1767, Captain James Cook directed a survey embracing the greater part of the coast of Newfoundland. The charting of this coastline was the first scientific, large-scale, hydrographic survey to use precise triangulation to establish land outlines.

The site has excellent views of the bay and its mountains. It also hosts a view of the entire city.

Corner Brook Stream Trail

Walking the Corner Brook Stream Trail is an excellent way for you to stretch your legs. The scenery is beautiful, and the trails are exceptionally well maintained. Fairly easy walk with some steps and a few slopes, but very manageable.

Corner Brook Stream Trail is enjoyable any time of the year. In the summer, it has swans, ducks, and beautiful foliage. In the autumn, the colour of the leaves changes, with their red, orange, and yellow hues, which are so vibrant! In winter, of course, there is the snow, and in spring, with all the flowers in bloom. Quite often, you may see a squirrel and occasionally a rabbit.

Corner Brook Caves

The Corner Brook Cave is a known Geologic feature of Newfoundland’s west coast but is one of the hidden gems.

Carved over the millennia by the steady run of Corner Brook Stream, these limestone caves offer over a kilometre of underground chutes and passageways to explore. This is a fantastic location, and we have the opportunity to do parts of the cave system in summer. Carved over the millennia by the steady run of Corner Brook Stream, these limestone caves offer over a kilometre of underground chutes and passageways to explore.

It will be a good idea to arrange a guide for the first time to the caves, for they all have a flooding schedule for the dam and provide you with the safest possible adventure.

Margaret Bowater Park

A beautiful relaxing area with walking trails right in the center of Corner Brook. You’ll find swings, slides, jungle gyms for climbing, and a picnic area for parents to sit as the kids play. Food and drinks can be bought at a small canteen.

In the evening time during the summer, there are local musicians scheduled. Corner Brook looks its best dressed in fall colours!

Corner Brook Museum and Archives

Featured here are many artifacts from the early days of the Corner Brook exhibit Captain James Cook and the indigenous peoples.

In addition, there is a slide show of Corner Brook scenes from the early 1900s to 2000s, information about leading citizens, and a fascinating exhibit of WWII brides from England and Scotland about how they met their husbands and their reactions to coming to Corner Brook.

Also, natural history exhibits animals, trees, and rocks. The museum is in the oldest building in town but has an elevator. The exhibits are on three floors. There is an accessible entrance from the town hall next door.
