The Iron Horse Trail is Alberta’s longest completed section of the Trans-Canada trail.

The Trans-Canada trail was first made during the mid-1800s, during the peak of the fur trade for a transportation road on Red River Carts. In the 1900s, it was used by CN transportation for its train, which was referred to as the Iron Horse, hence the name.

The section in Alberta is a 300 km continuous trail that winds through Bonnyville and is open all year round.

The best place to access this trail is near the corner of Hwy 41 and 54 Avenue.
