Nipigon Lookout

The Nipigon Lookout is one of the town’s prized attractions as it gives a beautiful view of the beauty Nipigon has to offer, like the Nipigon Bridge and Lake. Located on the top of the lookout spot are picnic tables and benches to relax and breathe in the beauty of Nipigon.

What makes this attraction all the most perfect is that it’s found right at the entrance to the town.

Nipigon River Bridge

The Nipigon River Bridge was a beautiful structure designed to allow passing traffic to cross over the Nipigon Bridge. Standing almost 250 feet tall, this bridge also serves as a lovely showpiece for tourists, as well as residents of the town, to enjoy. If you walk along the bridge, there are areas for people to look out onto the lake and catch breathtaking sunsets and sunrises. To further add to its charm, the bridge lights up with blue colours at night, so you don’t want to miss seeing that with your own eyes on a trip here!

Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area

If you enjoy spending time in nature, then it’s time you planned your visit to Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area. This conservation area holds great significance as it is becoming one of Canada’s largest protected freshwater areas! Under careful ecological management by Parks Canada, this area makes the perfect place to engage in fun activities like hiking, sailing, kayaking, fishing and catching breathtaking sunsets by the lake.

Nipigon River

The Nipigon River is surely something you can’t miss, and literally… Locals living in the town of Nipigon claim to see this river every day without even meaning to. It’s that hard to ignore! Located in Thunder Bay and overlooking Lake Superior, this river offers a lot of adventure. Grab a boat and embark on an adventure showing you the lovely views of the town of Nipigon.

If boats aren’t for you, then you’ll be relieved to know of the Portage Trail. This trail guides you alongside the Nipigon River, where you can try to catch a glimpse of inhabiting turtles, beavers, herons and ducks. If you want to take it easy and soak in nature subtly, the Nipigon River Bridge is made just for you. The Nipigon River Bridge stretches over the river providing a view of the Nipigon River and sunsets to soak in.

Nipigon River Recreational Trail

If you’re a big fan of hiking trips and are planning a long yet scenic trail, you should consider walking the Nipigon River Recreation Trail. Found in the Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area, this trail gives you the full Nipigon experience! You’ll be able to soak in the beauty and wildlife along the Nipigon River shoreline. This trail is open through all seasons, so whether you’re looking for a great way for you or your family to kick off the summer or look at the warm colours of autumn, this is the perfect destination.

It is important to note before starting this trail that it takes around 3-5 hours to complete; there are shorter locations mapped out that you may begin from if a shorter hike is what you desire. Also, keep a lookout for viewing and seating spots at certain parts of the trail!

Are you travelling with your family and finding it hard to control those energy-full children of yours? While on your stay at Nipigon, be sure to check out the Paddle-to-the-sea Park. There are 12 playground locations that make their way through town to the waterfront, so this can be an interactive way for the whole family to get a taste of Nipigon. Fun activities offered to engage kids, even teenagers, are flowering, dumping buckets, fountain spouts, and much more!

When looking for a good way to cool off after all that excitement, try visiting the ice cream store at Rotary Park, right across the park. Paddle-to-the-sea is also free of cost, so bring the family, bring the kids. There’s no room for boredom here!

Ruby Lake Provincial Park

Found nearby the National Marine Conservation Area, Ruby Lake Provincial Park is home to 3 small lakes abundant in cliffs and ravines. After spending a day here, it’s impossible to walk away unsatisfied. There are many activities to engage in! Hiking, fishing, going wildlife watching, if you plan to visit during the winter season, get your boots on because skiing and snowboarding are popular activities visitors enjoy. If you’re up for a bit of adventure, try accessing the park by travelling by water from Lake Superior!

Trails are even used for running and biking, and don’t worry about getting tired; trails may lead to lookout spots where you can breathe in and out the scenic views Nipigon offers.

Lake Superior Circle Tour

The Lake Superior Circle Tour allows tourists to explore Lake Superior on a self-guided tour. You can conquer this 1,300-mile tour by foot, car, bike or even boat. Regardless, the great Lakes’ scenic beauty is impossible to miss, no matter what! To make the tour all the more exciting for participants, a new stamping program has been installed where travelers can collect stamps after reaching certain destinations mapped out on their tour guides.
