Located at a breathtaking site that overlooks the St. Lawrence River, this lighthouse is a significant historic site in Gaspé. This site’s significance is accredited to being home to North America’s first maritime radio station since 1904, which also served as a strategic center for communication during world war I and II. This was declared a national historic event by the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada in 2011. A plaque commemorating the event was installed on the site in 2012, a strategic center for communications during the two world wars.
The many activities this site offers include guided tours, hiking and exhibitions. The exhibits Marconi and the Story of Radio Communications and Pointe-à-la-Renommée: The Space of a Lifetime outline the lives of radio operators, lightkeepers and their families. Open from June to September every day, this site is essential on your trip to Gaspeé.
