Port Union National Historic District

A small section of Port Union that engages visitors in the lively history of the area. They offer guided and self-tours where you can take in the area at your speed. It educates its visitors that Port Union is the only “union-built town” in North America, a fact they are proud of.

Those who embark on this tour are welcome to see the restored factory building, the fisherman’s advocate, old back issues of the advocate, a total walking tour telling the story of the town’s development, and special events they hold throughout the year. It is the perfect place to go and learn a gem of history from the area!

Murphy’s Cove to Lodge’s Pond Trail

One of the most hiked trails in the area, this trail is 7.7km in length. It offers magnificent views of the ocean and natural beauty.

Hiking this trail, you can see landmarks like the Green Island Lighthouse, which was built in 1857. You want to check this one out because it is one of the few remaining lighthouses with staffing in Newfoundland.

After this, it goes around the Cove and here, you might see some abandoned remnants, whales, and seabirds. As it was abandoned in the 60s, it is cool to see nature return to its undisturbed place. If you like hikes, this is for you to check out!

Seaport Inn

A local inn highly recommended by many offers a cute little place to stay when in town. A family and pet-friendly inn is located right in the middle of town, where all the local attractions are nearby for enjoyment. They say the heritage is right at your fingertips when you stay here. Not only do they offer rooming, but they also offer a restaurant experience serving traditional Newfoundland dishes to grab a taste of the local cuisine. If you are there, you have to try their cheesecake!

The Bungalow – Sir William F. Coaker’s Estate

Another place to visit if you enjoy learning about the history of a place. The bungalow is the former residence of Sir William F. Coaker and is open to tours for groups of visitors. They offer in-depth tours of the estate and love educating visitors on the preserved contents of the house.

The tours explain Coaker’s history with the union and look into his history, describing how his house was the first to have electricity in the province and that he wanted to own an electric company. Overall, this exhibit is informative to both residents and vacationers.
