Kingsbrae Garden

When deciding which spots are worth visiting, you should know that Kingsbrae Garden is a no-brainer.

It is easy to see why this stunning land of 27 acres has received multiple awards. With the help of both old and new gardening styles, more than 50,000 perennial plants bloom and flourish in the themed gardens, ponds, streams, and the Acadian forest. There are also dozens of impressive sculptures, a beautiful art studio, and interactive classes.

The Garden Café has a bistro-style menu of sandwiches, soups, chowders, pastas, and delicious desserts like cheesecakes, tortes, crème brûlée, and more. Their award-winning fine-dining restaurant, Savour in the Garden, opened in 2013 and was named by Sharp Magazine as one of Canada’s best new restaurants. They offer set tasting menus that change by the week. Seating is limited, so you must make reservations in advance. If you want to eat out in the gardens, reserve a picnic basket full of charcuterie, cheese, bread, and everything else needed!

For rates, hours, and details, it is best to check out their website!

St. Andrews Blockhouse National Historic Site

This historical site faces the harbour and boasts an incredible view of the Bay of Fundy. The townspeople constructed the blockhouse as a protection against the military and American privateers. During your visit, you can get a sense of what life was like amidst the terror and uncertainty of the War of 1812.

You can try on a red, blue and gold uniform as the soldiers wore, explore the barracks room and storage loft, look out from the roof used to secure vantage points, and observe the loopholes and gun ports.

Once you’ve had your fill of history, you can picnic outside as you watch the tides flow and hear them crash.

Founded in 1967, Huntsman is a non-profit organization that produces high-quality marine research and educational programs, and they seek to increase sustainability for the marine environment and economy. They do all they can to spark interest in the community and gain their support, as they know they cannot achieve their mission alone.

Huntsman Marine Experiences provides options of varying durations for all ages and budgets. During these experiences, you can explore life in the Bay of Fundy with professional Naturalists in small groups (less than 20 people), resulting in intimate and direct interactions.

With more than 1,200,000 visitors thus far—and approximately 40,000 guests each year—the Fundy Discovery Aquarium is New Brunswick’s most visited non-government tourist attraction. All exhibits—even seal feeding—can be viewed from inside, so the quality of your visit does not depend on the weather (though they are closed from October to May)!

Pendlebury Lighthouse

This St. Andrews Lighthouse (known as the Pendlebury Lighthouse) was built in 1833 and is now New Brunswick’s oldest remaining mainland lighthouse. The first keeper of this lighthouse, James Smith, served for close to ten years, but difficulties with maintaining sobriety led to his termination in 1842. After Smith’s removal, John Pendlebury became the keeper, and his family continued to serve until it was decommissioned in 1938. Of course, this family is where the Pendlebury Lighthouse gets its name from.

Watch the tides ebb and flow, stroll along the beach, and admire the panoramic views—truly a therapeutic experience.

Sheriff Andrews House

This charming brick building was built in 1820 by Elisha Andrews, one of Charlotte County’s first High Sheriffs. This Neoclassical-style house is now a Provincial Historic Site. With the help of knowledgeable, costumed guides, you will learn historical facts and imagine what Sheriff Andrew’s daily life might have been like.

Being able to view the period furnishings is an incredible experience. Count just how many fireplaces there are, look around the basement’s kitchen, and find the signature of Louise Andrews (the Sheriff’s daughter), which was scratched into the glass of her bedroom window using her diamond engagement ring! Afternoon tea is served with cookies (or whichever delicious sweets they are offering at the time), which is always a nice bonus.
