Festival International du Domaine Forget de Charlevoix

June – August

This fantastic festival takes place during the summer when artists gather worldwide to play captivating shows. Esteemed orchestras, musicians, and dancers breathe life into the stage and put the audience into a magical trance. For those who are more attracted to stillness than rhythm, you can instead visit the Harmonic Sculpture Garden, which is an outdoor exhibition that boasts an amazing selection of sculpted works.

There are many different shows that are held throughout the duration of the festival, so make sure to check out the programming before you make your visit!

Les Écuries Entre Monts Et Marées

Founded in 2003, this equestrian centre offers horse rides, carriage rides, horse training, and more. There is even a riding school available to people of all ages, offering training in western and classical riding.

The thought of riding a five-foot-tall live animal can be daunting, but rest assured, you’re in good hands. This is where you can feel safe and comfortable while living out your fairytale dreams (as long as you don’t expect the horses to talk back to you). If you have kids tagging along, remember that children under six years of age will only be able to do 10-minute rides on a carousel.

If you prefer to have your feet on the ground, you can simply go on a basic walking hike. Sure, your point-of-view will not be as high as on a horse, but you don’t have to be tall for the beautiful panorama to fill you with awe.

Les Ateliers Charlevoix

You absolutely must visit this lovely boutique of pottery and paintings. The porcelain products are handmade, non-toxic, and safe to use in the microwave, dishwasher, and oven. It is easy for even the untrained eye to see that each unique, gorgeous piece is crafted with love, care, skill, and precision. To make them even more irresistible, the price point is considered reasonable, affordable, and a total steal, given the high quality.

Then there are the bold, vibrant paintings by Marc DeBlois, an artist born in Sillery, Quebec, in 1943—who also happens to be one of the first mentors of Stéphane Bouchard, the talented potter of Les Ateliers Charlevoix. Deblois’ works are coveted by collectors worldwide and are worth a visit on their merit.

Église de Saint-Irénée

The church of Saint-Irénée dates back to 1842, making it the second oldest church in Charlevoix. Outside, you have a panoramic view of the river, while the interior contains many historical elements. Beneath the high altar sits a carved replica of the Last Supper, overlooking the high altar is the canvas of the Virgin and the Child, and facing the assembly is the statue of Saint-Irénée, one of the fathers of the church.

There is also the lamp of the sanctuary, the Way of the Cross, a Casavant organ, and a section that displays a variety of clothes and objects.

Plage de Saint-Irénée

Whether travelling solo, with friends, or with family, this is the perfect beach for a casual day out! Depending on the weather, you can lie back and relax on the sand, take your dog—on a leash, of course—for a walk along the shore, build magnificent sandcastles with the kids, go for a refreshing swim, and have fun on a kayak or paddle board.

To top it off, you can find a restaurant, an antique dealer, and accommodation nearby.

Centre de Plein Air Les Sources Joyeuses

For those who aren’t a fan of the beach and prefer snow to sand, this is the place for you!

Founded in 1989 by a non-profit organization composed of volunteers, it immediately became a popular hub for friends and families to have fun outings and engage in seasonal hobbies.

Located approximately ten minutes away (by car) from Saint-Irénée, Les Sources Joyeuses is a fantastic addition to your trip. There are cross-country ski trails, snowshoe trails, hiking trails, ice rinks, and tube slides. No need to stuff your car with a bunch of equipment, either—you can simply rent it! If you want to take a break and admire the view, there is an easily accessible mirador that offers a splendid panoramic view of the surrounding mountains, valleys, the St. Lawrence River, and the hinterland villages.

Alpagas Charlevoix

Have you ever wished you could see an alpaca in real life? Now’s your chance to do so!

It only takes about a fifteen-minute drive from Saint-Irénée to make your dream come true. There will be a guide to take you and your fluffy new friend on a gorgeous, healing hike, where you can learn more about these majestic animals and how to interact with them safely (you may or may not shed a tear when they start to eat grass out of your hand). There is also a shop where you can buy headbands, scarves, socks, and mittens—all made of alpaca wool!
