Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal National Historic Site

Connecting Lake Saint-Louis and Lake des Deux-Montagnes and originally built in 1843, this canal once played an important commercial role in shipping lumber and transporting immigrants. Today visitors can watch the lock’s operations or stroll through the surrounding green areas for a picnic or a leisurely walk.

Steeped in history, the canal docked passenger ships such as the Old Field, the Prince of Wales, the Sovereign, and the Empress. Today the site serves as a spot to learn about the deep history of shipping on the island of Montreal amidst a beautiful, natural environment.
