Seaforth’s Main Street

Welcome to one of the finest late 19th-century streetscapes remaining in the Province of Ontario. This architectural composition of two-storey brick buildings, unique in their uniformity and character, is a provincially designated Heritage Conservation District.

In September 1876, at two o’clock in the morning, a fire broke out on Main Street, destroying 12 acres of the business section. The town rebounded, and Main Street was rebuilt with the brick and block structures which stand today.

Van Egmond House

The historic Van Egmond House Museum is an excellent example of a fine country manor house dating to the mid-19th century.  The house, built in 1846, was carefully restored and furnished with an antique representative of the period before the confederation.

The house was built by Constant Louis Van Egmond. At one point, the house cellar served as a jail for the village because there was no other jail in the area. This was done by the Constant, a magistrate at the time who founded the village of Egmondville in 1845.

Its notable features are a facade and side elevation, six-over-six windows, and a four-columned verandah.

Maelstrom Winery

In the Maelstrom Winery, you can not only purchase their wine but also taste and take a tour of the winery, vineyard, and facility.

The winery uses a hands-off approach that allows using fewer chemicals and softer filtering practices which results in more rich wine. They are also blessed with a complex ecosystem which is perfect for winemaking. The Huron Country has a cold climate and clay soil, making it favourable for creating complex, balanced, and intense wine.
