Lesser Slave Lake Provincial Park

It has a beautiful lake with excellent facilities for camping with the clean ground, but the tourist might have to do a little hike to get a clear spot. The southern end of the park consists of storm beaches, beach ridges and blowout dunes behind marshes and wetlands.

The beach is a bit rocky but has clean and algae-free water, calm and allows access for fishing, canoeing, biking, swimming. There is almost 18km of cross-country ski trails groomed for classical style skiing. Snowmobiling is not permitted anywhere in the park.

Boreal Centre for Bird Conservation

It is a small, but modern museum nestled in the forest. The building is beautiful with interactive displays and exhibits. There is a big craft room for kids and a reasonably priced gift shop. The grounds have several short hiking loops for enjoying nature and seeing birds in the area.

The Boreal Centre is a unique research and education center that explores the importance of boreal forests, especially for their migratory birds.

Fawcett Lake Resort

Fawcett Lake Resort has been a favourite spot to camp and fish for more than 50 years. It is located in the beauty of true natural Alberta bush, and the sunset itself is worth the drive.

While at the resort, there are plenty of opportunities for being at the beach, playing in the water, and getting muddy with the quads or mountain bikes. That’s right, located on the Trans Canada Trail, Fawcett Lake is in Quad Country and 4-wheel ATVs are welcome on the Resort property. Anyone who has been there will tell you that when you are at Fawcett Lake … you go fishing. So, in addition to your camping gear, bring your beach stuff, boats, quads, mountain bikes, and fishing gear, and don’t forget your fishing license.
