A Perth County staple for over 35 years. The Best Little Pork Shoppe was founded in 1987 by Linda and Gerry Knechtel, who started out selling whole-hog sausage from their back door and graduated to a small shop in their implement shed by 1990.
The shop has passed through a few generations of local ownership — the Wettlaufers took it over in 2011, and in 2022 it was purchased by Ben and Natalie Schelhaas. Ben was born in Stratford and raised around Shakespeare, so the tradition of local roots runs deep.
Inside you’ll find signature whole-hog sausages, smoked chops, bacon, locally raised meats, aged Ontario cheddars, Wellesley apple butter, house-made sausage rolls, preserves, chutneys, BBQ sauces, and fresh baked goods from the on-farm bakery. There’s also a surprisingly good selection of pig-themed souvenirs and a famous pig statue out front that has become a classic Canadian roadside photo op.
The philosophy has stayed the same through every owner: “We don’t sell anything we don’t like ourselves.”
