Presqu’ile Point Lighthouse

This historical lighthouse began operating in 1840 with the help of its keeper, William Swetman, who stayed the keeper until 1871, when he died at age 86. His grandson became the next keeper to continue in his grandfather’s footsteps. Since then, this 69-foot octagonal stone tower has had many keepers and visitors.

The Presqu’ille Point Lighthouse has located 11.8 km from Brighton and makes for a perfect tourist location. Visitors can see the lighthouse up close and visit the Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, which is located in the vicinity of the lighthouse and is open between July and August.

Proctor House Museum

The Proctor House Museum offers visitors a tour, theatre, gallery displays, and many other educational events. It also gives visitors the chance to go ghost hunting! The Proctor House is the source of many local ghost stories, which spread after numerous sightings of a fiery ball near the residence. Some stories suggest the ghost of John Nix Jr haunting John E. Proctor over financial deals, while other stories suggest it was just children flying a kite. It’s up to the visitors to investigate the truth behind the mysterious fiery ball!

The house belonged to John W. Proctor until he donated it in 1970 to the people in the area.  While the Proctor family lived in the house, the house was subjected to many renovations throughout the years, such as a new circular staircase they saw on a trip south. What makes the Proctor House unique compared to other houses of the time is the hair they used to strengthen their plaster and the pine used to construct the house. Visit the Museum to see all the unique features for yourself!

Trent-Severn Waterway

The Canal system connected the Great Lakes

The Trent-Severn Waterway is a feat of human ingenuity which connects Lake Ontario and Lake Huron at Georgia Bay and Port Severn, respectfully. The canal was originally considered a military route, but in 1833, the first lock was built for a commercial venture.

However, despite constructing additional locks, the government eventually gave up on the idea of using the canal for military purposes. Instead, the canal was connected through toll roads, plank roads, and railways to satisfy business interests. This resulted in a 386-kilometre-long canal route that we know today as the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Timber Ridge Golf Course

The Timber Ridge Golf Course is a worthwhile stop for any golfing enthusiasts. Listed as a “Must Play” by the Toronto Life Magazine, the Timber Ridge Golf Course is a 200-acre property set up to play no more than 6,633 yards from the back markers. The course has a mix of tree-lined holes and parkland settings, leading many to consider Timber Ridge Golf Course as offering the best value in Ontario.

The golf course took around a decade to take form. The initial design was created in the early 1990s by Steven L. Ward of GolfPlan Associates. Despite completing the plan and receiving government approvals, progress on the golf course was not made until 1999, when a new partner joined. After two years, the Timber Ridge Golf Course was opened to the public.
