Cumberland Forest Mountain Bike Trails

Cumberland is a center of cyclo-tourism with one of Canada’s best mountain biking circuits. 

Located in the Beaufort Mountain Range, the Cumberland Forest Mountain Bike Trails are the best on Vancouver Island. With over 179 biking and 180 hiking trails, Cumberland Forest Mountain Bike Trails has a trail for every skill level.

Home Town of Terry Tobacco

Born and raised in Cumberland, Terry Tobacco raced for Team Canada at the 1956 and 1960 Summer Olympics. 

He was discovered at age 15 by Victoria “Flying Y” coach Bruce Humber after winning the 100- and 220- yard races at the 1952 Island high school championships.

Competing in the 400m, 4x100m, and 4x400m races, Tobacco made the 400m final in the Melbourne Olympics. 

Tobacco was inducted into the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2007.

Cumberland Museum & Archives

For many years, Cumberland was known as a mining village.

Trent River Falls

The Trent River Falls is located just a short drive from Cumberland and is one of the world’s largest spawning locations for pink salmon. The falls drop over 30 feet and are perfect for swimming with no salmon! Surrounded by dense forests, the falls are accessible by trail. 

The trail to Trent River Falls is steep so ensure you bring proper footwear, water, and a camera for the views!

Coal Creek Historic Park (Chinatown)

The small area of Cumberland called Chinatown was built to home the Chinese workers that immigrated here to work in the coal mines in Cumberland.

Cumberland Community Forest

Located on the traditional territory of the Pentlach, SaLαLt, Säsitla and Eiksαn people, known today as the K’omoks First Nation, the Cumberland Community Forrest is a protected forest with conservation initiatives. Due to Forrest’s protection from logging, the ecosystem can thrive. 

The Forest features extensive trails and a diversity of wild plants and animals rarely seen worldwide. The forest is accessible to everyone, so be sure to wander through on your journey to Cumberland!

Comox Lake

Many considered the crown jewel of Cumberland, Comox Lake was created in 1912 when the Comox Dam was built. The lake holds trophy salmon, trout, and char. Furthermore, Comox Lake has a boat launch so that you can spend a day on the water. 

Comox Lake is the perfect lake for swimming, camping, or just a picnic! Be sure to check out Comox Lake, as it is gorgeous.
