In June 2023, a film crew arrived in Ogema to shoot a Historica Canada Heritage Minute — one of those iconic 60-second films that every Canadian has seen at least once. The Heritage Minute told the story of Mary “Bonnie” Baker, a Saskatchewan-born player in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League.
They chose Ogema because of the heritage grandstand, the train, and the authentic small-town prairie setting. More than 100 Ogema locals appeared as extras. The premiere was held in town, and donations from the production company, the Town of Ogema, and the Radius Credit Union went toward the grandstand restoration.
A town of 400 people, standing in for all of small-town Saskatchewan — and doing it beautifully.
