Granted by the Governor General
On August 15, 2011, the Town of Castor received an official Grant of Arms, Supporters, Flags, and Badge from the Canadian Heraldic Authority — a distinction held by relatively few small towns in Canada.

The coat of arms features beavers, a heraldic pun on the town’s name: “Castor” is the Latin and French word for beaver. The beaver fur trade was the first major economy in the region, and the animals still inhabit the creek that wraps around the town.
It’s a lovely bit of official recognition for a prairie community of 800 people — and a reminder that small towns carry their history in more ways than one.
